⑦ Fruit Advisor Conference
At the seminar titled “Imported Fruit Study Session – Learning from an Imported Fruit Trading Company: History and the Road Ahead,” a lecture was delivered on the evolution of the fresh produce industry with a focus on imported fruits.
Full-scale importation and sales of tropical fruits began in 1980.
At that time, tropical fruits such as mangoes and papayas were not yet common in the Japanese market, and both distribution volume and consumer awareness were limited.
Against this backdrop, our business centered on mangoes, kiwifruit, avocados, and papayas, while working to establish quality control and stable supply systems.
With a long-term vision for market development in Japan, efforts were also made to build strong relationships with production areas and to develop reliable transportation and logistics frameworks—helping shape the environment surrounding imported fruits.
In the interview session, the speaker reflected on the industry’s transition from its early market-forming stages to the present day, and spoke about the importance of passing on the experience, knowledge, and passion cultivated over the years to the next generation.
