U.S. Strawberries
What Are U.S. Strawberries?
U.S. strawberries are among the world’s leading fruits in terms of production volume and export scale.
Thanks to continuous advances in breeding and cultivation technology, they are recognized globally as a high-quality fruit with stable and reliable supply.
The history of strawberry cultivation in the United States dates back to the 18th century.
Modern cultivated varieties were established through crossbreeding European strawberry varieties with native North American wild species.
From the late 19th century onward, commercial production expanded rapidly, particularly in California, where a mild climate and advanced irrigation systems enabled significant growth in output.
By combining specific varieties with suitable growing regions, U.S. strawberries play an important role in the Japanese market as a reliable imported supply during domestic off-season periods.
Fruit Characteristics
Strawberries grown for export are characterized by their large size, firm flesh, and excellent shelf life.
They offer a well-balanced sweetness and acidity, making them especially suitable for professional use, such as fresh-cut applications and dessert toppings.
Nutritional Value & Health Benefits
Strawberries are loved for their charming appearance and sweet-and-tart flavor.
Despite their small size, they are packed with nutrients that support beauty and overall health.
In particular, the following three points deserve special attention:
1. Rich in Vitamin C to Support Skin Health and Immunity
Strawberries are among the fruits with the highest vitamin C content, containing 62 mg per 100 g.
This amount is comparable to that of lemons and helps promote healthy skin, prevent colds, and reduce stress.
2. Dietary Fiber for Digestive Health
Strawberries contain a well-balanced combination of soluble and insoluble dietary fiber,
supporting healthy digestion and improving bowel regularity.
3. Low-Calorie and Guilt-Free
With approximately 31 kcal per 100 g, strawberries are a naturally low-calorie fruit.
They are enjoyed by people of all ages as a healthy, guilt-free sweet treat.
Bright in appearance and fragrance, strawberries are delicious on their own and pair beautifully with yogurt and desserts.
They are a reliable fruit that allows you to enjoy great taste while supporting beauty and health from within.

Storage Guidelines
U.S. strawberries are non-climacteric fruits, meaning they do not continue to ripen after harvest.
Therefore, the freshness and quality at the time of harvest directly determine the final flavor.
For this reason, speedy handling and proper temperature control are essential throughout distribution and sales.
Key Points for Maintaining Freshness
1. Refrigerated storage is essential
After arrival, store strawberries promptly at around 5°C.
Take care to prevent excessive dryness or condensation inside storage.
Using perforated plastic bags or breathable containers helps maintain the right balance of humidity and ventilation, reducing quality deterioration.
2. Avoid washing before storage
Storing strawberries while wet can cause skin damage and promote mold growth.
In principle, keep them unwashed and wash only immediately before sale or serving.
3. Notes on quality preservation
Since strawberries do not ripen after harvest, the quality at arrival is the final quality.
Storage expecting further ripening is not possible, making prompt shipment and sale essential.
